VEGGIE SCRAPS!

COMPOSTING IS A GREAT WAY TO REUSE NUTRIENTS IN ENDS OF FRUITS AND VEGGIES AND IN PIECES THAT GET FORGOTTEN AND WASTED......BUT BEFORE YOU HIT THAT STEP HERE ARE A COUPLE OF IDEAS FOR YOUR SCRAP VEGGIES AND FRUIT (MINUS THE ROTTING ONES)

JUICE YOUR ENDS RIGHT IN WITH YOUR MORNING JUICE....KALE STEMS ARE A BIT TOUGH TO CHEW ON BUT GO RIGHT THROUGH THE JUICER AND WONT REALLY ALTER THE FLAVOR. (UNLESS YOU ADD A YEARS WORTH)
CARROT TOPS, APPLE CORES, BEAN ENDS, YOU NAME IT YOU AND IT CAN BE JUICED. LEMON PEELS ARE A GREAT ADDITION TO JUICE AND GIVE IT A LITTLE EXTRA KICK IN THE MORNING...WHO NEEDS COFFEE WHEN THEY ARE DOWNING KALE, CARROT, LEMON, CELERY JUICE?

THEN WHEN YOU ARE DONE WITH THE JUICER, INSTEAD OF JUST TOSSING THE PULP IN THE TRASH, COMPOST IT OR SET IT ASIDE FOR SOUP! YEAH THATS RIGHT, I SAID SOUP....

ALL THE ENDS THAT DONT GET JUICED IN MY HOUSE END UP IN BAGGIES IN THE FREEZER. THEN WHEN WINTER HITS AND ORGANIC VEGGIES ARE LIKE RARE GEMS FROM THE OCEAN AND COST $980 A POUND....

I HAVE BAGS AND BAGS FULL OF SCRAPS TO MAKE VEGGIE BROTH. I JUST PULL OUT A BAGGIE, DUMP THE CONTENTS INTO A STRAINER AND BOIL WATER IN A BIG POT WITH THE STRAINER ON TOP...BOILING THE CONTENTS OF THE STRAINER AT THE SAME TIME....THIS MAKES A GREAT SOUP BASE. IF YOU HAVE A LOT OF JUICE PULP I RECOMMEND USING CHEESE CLOTH TO BOIL YOUR CLIPPINGS IN.

AS FAR AS JUICING GOES I RECOMMEND JUICING CELERY, SPINACH AND KALE IN AS MANY JUICES AS POSSIBLE. DONT OVERDO IT SO YOU CANT STAND THE FLAVOR, BUT THATS WHAT CARROTS ARE FOR....THEY OVERPOWER THE GREEN-NESS. I ALSO LIKE TO ADD A LITTLE CHUNK OF FRESH GINGER TO MY JUICE, IT KEEPS MY TUMMY HAPPY ALL DAY, BESIDES IT HAS A BIT OF A BITE TO IT!
